Route U.S.66 Poem by David Darbyshire

Route U.S.66

Rating: 5.0

Gas equipped cabins
route 66 begins
coca cola out the bottle
give the old truck full throttle

Hub caps on the fence
each one 50 cents
old washing machine side of the road
got to follow the highway code

In my '54 Ford', half ton pick-up truck
full with gas and a bit of luck
I am on my way down Route U.S.66
Hoping along the way to pick up some chicks

I find it a very ' HOT ', straight road
got to get some water before I explode
finally I hit a long winding smooth curve
and then a couple of road signs I observe

146 miles to California
Palms Motel, San Bernardino
Hotel Motel, Hotel Motel, Hotel Motel,
all with 'No Vacancy', and for sale

So I put the pedal
to the metal
and get out of here
In the direction of Canada
I do steer

Road Trip! I love this, Dave! The feeling of anticipation and excitement-movement! Where to next? Las Vegas? Sandra, laughing and packing her bags......
