Salome Dances Poem by Gert Strydom

Salome Dances

When Salome did dance before Herod
he was caught off guard and promised the sun and stars,
that adulterous king was almost in a trance

and he wanted her to keep gambolling around
and Salome asked for the head of John on a tray,
he was caught off guard and promised the sun and stars

and the girl did not care for poor John,
only wished to please her mother
and Salome asked for the head of John on a tray

and when his blood splattered she dances on jeering
without considering the God of the universe
and she wished to please her mother

and still today many men fall over their feet for a beautiful woman,
to make her happy
without considering the God of the universe

and do not care about having adulterous relationships.
When Salome did dance before Herod
to make her happy
that adulterous king was almost in a trance.
