Saved in Italy

Saved in Italy
Beneath the Umbrian sun
Last summer
Doubts dispelled
Becoming into

Snatched away
By the planes
We could have had more
Should have
But I think you gave me enough
Told me what I needed to hear
Whispers in the dark

You healed me
Barely had a chance
The chance we needed
I lost us
But found me

Lying in the pool
Thinking it through
6 years of thinking it through
Letting it go
Like all those olives
Devoured then thrown

I burned down the Vatican
No religion no more
No mores
Time to meditate
On what I could become
From what I was
Always was

Out of the desert
Out of the cold
Into marble
Was it worth it?
For all I lost
I sacrificed myself
To be born again

My enlightenment
There is none
The cruellest joke
But I can still laugh
While I sigh
You are my karma

So I am saved
And thank you kindly
But
Why am I in Italy
When I need to be
Where you are?
