Say You Will Come Again Poem by Judith Evans

Say You Will Come Again

You came to me in my dream
And held me so tightly
As I gasped with grief
Unable to breath out
Physical touch, for my physical pain
Overwhelmed at your return

I could sense your presence, as you approached
Enveloping me
You held me as I wept
As I had held you, for the last time
Ashes to ashes..
Don't leave me again, or I too will crumble to dust

It is you, it is you isn't it? I cried over and over
It is you
You said nothing but held me even tighter
Resting your chin on my head
Feeling my pain

I won't turn around to look, for fear you will disappear
But the tears running from my eyes are waking me
And I am the one leaving now
Please say you will come again..
If I promise not to cry.

When emotions pour out with such intensity it is impossible to remain indifferent.
