Scared Rabbit Poem by Lynn Stillman

Scared Rabbit

A recurring dream haunts me.
Every kind of animal coming to my door.
Maybe because,
they are the only ones that will not judge me.
Their love is unconditional.
I feed them all but sometimes I feel,
I will not have enough to give them.
And always in a cage,
There is what I can only describe,
as a scared rabbit,
that for some reason I forget about.
I forget to feed and nurture,
and my heart breaks because,
it goes without.
Finally I realize,
that the scared, neglected animal is me.
My heart breaks for this beautiful and precious,
creature.
But I do not know how to give it what,
it needs to live.

Perhaps they come to you because they know you will feed them and they have no where else to go. Maybe you neglect to feed the rabbit because there is not enough food for all and you know the rabbit will survive. Next time you have this dream feed the rabbit everything and the others will be filled.
