Sea The Colour Poem by Anthony Burge

Sea The Colour

Black moon smudged across aubergine sky

Ginger crowned flying fox loping by

Crimson satin sea spread shore to horizon

Crushed glass surface to cut my eyes on

White bird sails on feathered blue air

Casuarina foliage swish plaited green hair

White coral bones clink bubbling wash

Shell grit stirred golden tumbles in slosh

Olive backed crabs scarper across yellow sand

Falling star silver streaked sky toward land

Dark chocolate buffalo enters the sea

Metallic pearl baitfish shower then flee

Leather backed turtle clambers up beach

To bury slippery eggs where the moon shone peach

Mustard coloured dingo trots along frayed shores

Left shaded pressed stars in the wet sand from paws

Bloodied red sun seeps into purple night

Colours run fast with coming of light
