Searching For That Perfect Colored Petal Poem by Vera Sidhwa

Searching For That Perfect Colored Petal

I went searching for that perfect colored petal,
But I ran this way and that way and this way again,
Yet I couldn't settle one in God's garden.
God's garden manufactured so many gorgeous colored petals.

Oh, I found one now because I held the black one in my hand, I
But oh, I dropped it without an inkling because I saw a white one.
But I jumped so happily at the petal that was red.
I let it go without thinking for the purple petal.

I now binged on fistfuls of rainbow petals,
Then I unfurled my palm and let them go.
I walked quietly through God's garden and yelled,
"What is the meaning of all this God? "

"You surround me with stunning beauty,
You produce this garden joy,
You whisper in my ear to partake of your creation,
But you deny me my human decision."

GOD REPLIED, "I did not offer this garden of stunning colored petals,
For you to discriminate the flowers because of their colors.
I don't want you to pick out any color as BEST for life.
The boy asked God, "so you won't even let me give my Mom,
A red petalled rose on her birthday? You are cruel God! "

And suddenly, the boy's arms were overladen with,
Vast bouquets of varied colored flowers to take home.
This boy handed over the red roses to his Mom for her birthday,
A yellow petalled flower to his baby sister.

And he saved the rest for himself.
He didn't go chasing and dropping flowers anymore.
But he ran and skipped and laughed with joy,
While he flung and caught, so many different colored petals.

From the forest of yellow, pink, violet, white, red, orange and black colored petals.
This boy now couldn't PREFER ANY COLOR because he so loved all.
So all the flowers in the forest turned a special treat for him.
He was so much richer for that.
