Seasonal Thoughts Poem by Char Pattrick

Ahead of me the thunder will roar
The rain is my tears from Heaven
Hopes vanished like a rainbow after sunset
In vain I strive to vault above the skies
To reach my home; in vain I thrash the air
The strongest of my strokes beneath my wings
Within the second thoughts of heaven
I've heard the songs of evening stars arising
Yet now I mourn upon a mountain high
Where in I planned to make this my home
But in a cave I hide and shelter from it all
Asleep within the cave for you all awake
Remaining from the making of the stars
Infuse their lungs and then inflame their spirits
My wings will never spread as wide as yours
My wrath will never cause the earth to quake
My moods will not so fiercely sway the weather
My heart will never grow as hard as yours
To turn the deadly bolts of lightning on friends
To shatter swords, to blunt the points of lances
Before their wings can bear them, and before
The tides of magic bend to their desires
If I permit their enemies to hunt them
Before they reach whatever lesser strength
They might achieve on earth, indignant of fear
Will taint their dragons' hearts and dragons' pride,
Already starved by sheer frustrations ending
In manner unbefitting to their natures,
For fear of spear and desolation, isolation hurts
I'll make about these mountains shiver and quake
Men will flee away from us, and, bold of heart
Iridescent gold, and subdued pinks and bronze
She looked upon mountains frozen summit
With snows all reddened by the setting sun
She looked upon the firs within the forest
Shadowed still, upon the mountain skirts
She looked beyond, upon the calming sea
She looked upon the silhouettes of people
That yet remained a fortress fiercely guarded
She lifted up her head as the people chanted
Protect each other and forget about me
This day has come and this moment is here
