Seed And Tree

Seed I was
That grew
Into a tree
Bore fruit
That yielded
A seed
A tree
Seed and tree
Seed or tree
Which came first?
What will be last?
No one knows
And yet
The cycle
Keeps on
Repeating
Seed, tree, seed
Tree, seed, tree
On and on
On and on.

The time you won your town the race
We chaired you through the market-place;
Man and boy stood cheering by,
And home we brought you shoulder-high.
