Self Conversation Poem by Matthew Foor

Self Conversation

Flouting voices
Streaming endlessly
Within my mind, intensely
They're talking to me
Pejorative or not
They sure do bother me

Experiment
I talk back
Hoping to exhume the root cause
Alas
Prongs of my subconscious
Keep efforts at bay
Makes me take pause
Nothing left
Pray
Inevitable anyway

Trenchant, they sneak into my brain
Batter my soul
They fest inside of me
Some say therapy's the key

Behind tired eyes
Thats where they dwell
Side-by-side with racing thoughts
raving thoughts
In that space that mimics hell

Dark and dank
Thats how they live
Those nasty thoughts
Those crazy pranks

Keeping hold
Not letting them skip
Keeping them at bay
Day after day
