Senryu At Little Big Horn Poem by Michael Pruchnicki

Senryu At Little Big Horn

Rating: 2.0

three-pronged attack
Reno on right - Benteen center
Custer along ridge

troopers sweat and cuss
two-fifty a day and glory
in the dust by nightfall

blood-red the livelong day
two-fifty a day and glory-
that ain't just hay

cottonwood trees stand below
silent in summer heat-
bare bones

rusted trucks
yards barren and dry
Cheyenne on the dole

Harden, Montana
modern warriors donnybrook
saloon at high noon

Montana country
sun in cloudless sky
men & mounts in file

0800 hours 6/25/1876
7th Cavalry Regiment
George Armstrong Custer
