Set Me Free Poem by Rex-mayor Ubini

Set Me Free

Rating: 4.5

I know why you kept me
Right in this beautiful cage
Not because you love me
As you daily do proclaim
But because you envy
How beautiful am made
If you surely love me
You will set me free
And smile when I leap
On the back of the winds

You asked your mind
Your mind asked your heart
Your heart asked your soul
Your soul asked your spirit
About my inner mysteries
Got you daily wondering
Who thought me how to fly
Claiming the crown of the sky
By streaming in the breeze
Or floating on gravitational sea

That I can perch
On the soil for your legs
But you can't stand in
The sky for my wings
Makes you love to envy me
That I know what you know not
And can do what you can do not
Makes you love to prison me
The joy of sitting on the tree's shoulder
The sweet food you gave can't offer

Set me free! Set me free!
I pledge to tell you my mysteries
Set me free! Set me free!
Thou you have no wings like me
And your hands can't grow leaves
But you can make a metal me
To carry you all over the space
Even above the silver waves
Where the sun and stars abide
Where human birds live aside
