Shades Of White And Shades Of Grey Poem by Leaking Pen

Shades Of White And Shades Of Grey

How do I know?
I am getting old
As layers add up
One ring upon another
In the midsection of my torso
And my metabolism slows down
The thoughts in my mind
Like minutes on the clock
Whose battery lifespan
Reached its last charge
And here I am struggling
Descending the stairs of life
To reach the bottom landing
Seeking every breath on the way down
Like a slow motion video rewind
From my youth zipping by
And I wonder where did my life go
With memories of fading recollections
Inside my hallow vault.
Empty of gold, frankincense, and myrrh
My childhood, adulthood, and these greying years
Rolled up in a flash of lighting
As I try to figure out my life
Was it worth whatever importance?
I gave trivia things at the time?
At the end of it all
Shades of white and Shades of grey
All that remains…
In the hearts of the ones I left behind
Cementing my footprint on this earth
My scroll preserved for eternity
From generation to generation
In new memories about me!
