Sharp Tipped Dart Poem by Matt Burgett

Sharp Tipped Dart

A careless love
Followed by a careless dart
The jaggedly sharp tip
Penetrating deep in my heart
Following a night of darkness
By which the darkness of the night brings in
Something I can never begin
I'm sorry to say
But I think I must just go away
Away from the public
To bleed alone
In a lonely place of my choosing
Because the bleeding heart that I am
Has been taken away by Uncle Sam
To serve endlessly
In a field across the sea
At a battle ground in my heart
That has been weakened by a sharp tipped dart
Which is determined to tear us apart
By riping away at my flesh
By raising my fear
Up to a point I might shed a tear
And a weakening pulse just getting weaker
And my vision starts fading out
To survive now is like wining a heavyweight bout
By which I've been cast to the ground
My head hitting the pavement with a reluctant banging sound
Slower and slower beats my heart
It's finally stops and my eyes close
Thanks to that one selective Sharp tipped dart
