She Could Cry Poem by Dónall Dempsey

She Could Cry

She stepped into
Sunday
seemingly surprised
that she was here

the miracle of the day
lost on her
as she had meant to be
dead on Saturday.

It looked like some
dogooder
had found her
saved her

just in time
called 999.
God, it was so hard
(she thought it would be easy)
to just
die.

That meant tomorrow
would be Monday
...she could cry.
