She Is That Lovely Woman Poem by Francis Duggan

She Is That Lovely Woman

Rating: 5.0

Is she that lovely woman I knew her when she was in her prime
When I was a Primary school going boy long before I discovered rhyme
Her hair was brown and wavy in those days as it is still today
No doubt she's using hair dye to cover the natural gray.

She looks well for one in her early seventies her ageing wrinkles seem so few
But having said that amazing what cosmetics can do
And though cosmetic surgery the ageing body may temporarily repair
Her sagging breasts though camouflaged do seem the worst for wear

She and her husband have parted ways and few things last in life
For thirty years together they lived as man and wife
Few marriages last the distance or until death do us part
But then few ever marry the one they love at heart.

Her teeth look good for her age when she smile so white they show
But suppose she too has false teeth the fair one I once did know
She does not even know me or my name she can't recall
But then she was a teenager when I was learning how to crawl.

Some of her grand children in their twenties and time's clock is ticking on
And her school friends by time wearied and some to the Reaper gone
She is that lovely woman though me she does not know
I remember her from my Primary school going days some fifty years ago.
