Shell 2 Poem by Dana Lindsay

Shell 2

Beneath the tough exterior shell
Is a woman that is very vulnerable
And easily hurt

She never opened up and let
Anyone see that part of her
As it was a protection learned
From early child hood

In her entire life there has
Been only one man she let in
When he left her she closed
Back up and became even
Tougher on the exterior

She vowed to herself she
Would never allow anyone
Inside again

Now her life has been changed
As her best friend and lover
Has returned

Only by this time the shell
Is even tougher and
She is even more vulnerable
Than before

Due to his return she is
Trying very hard to rid
Herself of that though
Exterior shell and open
Herself to him completely

She prays he will understand
And be patient
And not be upset by her
Need for inner reflection
And reassurance

As she loves him very much

As time goes by
He does not feel
The need in being
There for her
He has his other
Interests

His time is
Not for her
He has no
Time for her

The distance
Grows

She realizes
Her mistake

And closes up
Again
