Shining Son Poem by Terry Wiens

Shining Son

That light that shines so brightly
Behind my path of life,
Comes from the son I held so dearly,
At his birth time with my wife.

I held his tiny fingers,
With tears of joy inside,
All I did was look at him,
He swelled my heart with pride.

I watched as he grew stronger,
Through all his childhood joys,
With bruises gained through sports,
And skills with childhood toys.

Now I watch with trepidation,
As he moves out all alone,
I hope that I’ve prepared him,
For a lifetime on his own.

We do what we can with our children,
No matter how happy or sad,
That son that shines so brightly,
Shines on cause I’m his dad.
