Shock (The End Of The World) Poem by Jade Leven

Shock (The End Of The World)

shock

it seems like there should have been a scream
or at least an echo
it seems like the world should have ended
a few seconds ago
it seems like there should have been an explanation
or at least an explosion
it seems like the shock should have dried up my heart
or at least dried up an ocean

shock

why didn't you just hit me hard in the face?
the same thing would've happened
you promised me that things would never change
from the way that they have been
but in the end we'll both be dead anyway
was that your conclusion?
I guess I wasn't included in your plan
of total seclusion

shock

don't you dare say the word, don't you dare say it
you can't do this, I didn't want to cry
don't you dare say the word, don't you dare say it
goodbye
you said it
there's no point to living anymore
you said it
you know damn well what I'm crying for

shock
sets in
truth
sinks in
let the end of the world
begin
