Shots



1st: My hearts empty, like, deflated, laundry draped over the empty basket empty 2nd: god, you kissed me like you haven’t in about a year, desperately 3rd: remember when we went to that basketball game, and the game sucked but we stayed and talked beside my truck (I was still driving the truck back then) until the parking lot was empty and then you got in your car and I waited until your headlights faded around the corner before I drove home? 4th: I regretted it for a second, a brief second in which I thought that we could probably go on like that until….5th: or when it was over, it was so surely over, just one more trip around the block in the dull yellow light and then drink the summer away, but you grabbed my hand,27 paces from the truck, and wouldn’t look at me yet, but I mouthed thank you anyway and took you home 6th: and when you took me to the park to take pictures of me 7th: and when I took you home you were wearing that red hat and your face was pale as it started to 8th: snowanditoldyouthatallthecolorsofthenightwerecontainedinyourfaceandyoureyestoldme”thatscliche”butistillwrotethepoemaboutitanditgotpublishedandthatswhenistartedtobelieveinlove
