Silence Poem by Elannia Lake

Silence

The absence of sound
Silence
It can be ominous.
When in silence
You notice
Shadows shifting, lights flickering
What was that in the corner?
Is it watching you?
Yes
Its hiding in the dark
The footsteps
You don't hear them
But you know they are there
Because its quiet
Too quiet
So there must be someone
Or something
Waiting, watching, wistfully
For something
This suspicious silence
Awakens uneasy anxiety
