Silent Prayer, Wishes, And Promises Poem by Sandra Feldman

Silent Prayer, Wishes, And Promises

Everyday I try,
To have a slice,
Of humble pie,
To meditate and learn,
To create dreams,
And not my bridges burn
Not to turn my eye,
Away from injustice,
Condemn, those that lie,
Project and Love Beauty,
Using Poetry's endless urn,
Until the day, I die.

This is the companion poem to PLEASE HELP ME, WISE TEACHER, both written on the same day. And it's an inspiring statement of the range of poetry's wide range of reference, not just the artistic imperative but also the social imperative. There is a new cd of music by a young composer Mohammed Fairouz who lives in London. He collaborates withthe Irish poet PAUL MULDOON. The album is called, FOLLOW, POET. and it begins with John F, Kennedy (sic) giving a speech on the importance of poetry (sic) . Muldoon recites a poem by Auden on the poet's social role, and your poem belongs in such company summoning us to fulfill our promises.
