Sin Addiction Poem by Heidi Fiore

Sin Addiction

Becoming a REAL Christian is basically like being a recovering addict.
Your addiction being all sin, and your relapses being often,
But you continue to struggle through
In part, because you know it's the right thing to do.

And in the process, you have to look back into your life of sin, and make amends for it.
At first, you feel alone - secluded from all you have ever known.
You feel the heartaches of the world on your shoulders.
It is hard, but the struggle gives you something to live for.
Without suffering there can be no joy; no compassion.

And then one day, you feel the sun; you hear a bird sing; you smell fresh baked pastries,
And that is when you suddenly know everything.
Past, present, future - are non-existent
All that matters is living.

Pain will always follow you, and suffering is inevitable,
But so is the sun, so are birds, so are cookies.
Time does not heal all wounds, but one simple fact does:
My God is good!

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
I'm not religious, I'm a Christian. It pains me to see the state of the world and to see what little Christians do for it. God calls us to love our neighbor, not judge him. No one has the right to deny someone their free will and human rights. If people were supposed to be the same, God would have made us that way. But he didn't. Instead, we are to embrace not only our own flaws, but the flaws we see in others as well. 'let he who is without sin be the one to cast the first stone.' Difference is one of the things that makes us better than any other living creature - Love is the other. With a knowledge and acceptance of this, we can do anything!
