Sing Along With Me Poem by Carol Pelletier

Sing Along With Me

Red-winged blackbird in the tree,
Sing a song along with me.

Sing of songs of yesterday,
When hearts were tuned to what to play?

Kick a stone down a dusty road,
Catch an unsuspecting toad.

Climb a tree up to it's heights
Plan to watch the Northern Lights.

Spy on friends in secret spots,
Play scrub ball on empty lots.

Teach my dog to do some tricks,
Sit up pretty and go fetch sticks.

Pick wild berries and eat my fill.
Find a cave in the side of a hill.

Catch fireflies and make a ring.
Watch a movie called 'The Thing.'

Join the gang at the school sock hop.
Learn a dance that's called the Bop.

Boys watched girls do that dance.
When tunes slowed down, they'd take a chance.

Rock and Roll came on strong.
The beat was neat, we found our song.

Fifties kids first heard the treat.
Of music with a brand new beat!

Elvis came and stole our hearts.
He sang and moved forbidden parts.

We drove our cars and cruised the streets.
Life was getting bittersweet.

We knew our lives would soon be changed,
That growing brings a little pain.

So sing of life and sing it well,
Cause life goes on as songs do tell.

Red-winged blackbird in the tree.
Sing a song along with me!
