Siren

You are a rich man's toy,
An ambitious man's dream,
A poor man's fantasy,
And a weak man's pitfall,

You are a dare devil's Playground,
A chaste man's breaking point,
A gambler's good-luck charm,
A chess player's queen,

Men are like moths for you,
Helplessly drawn to your beam,
Excuse my aloof demeanor,
But illumination doesn't attract me,

There really is no magic to it,
I am simply none of these men,
so you remain but a siren to my ears,
Wailing away in a godforsaken city.

Poem of the Day

poet Robert William Service

Just Home and Love! the words are small
Four little letters unto each;
And yet you will not find in all
The wide and gracious range of speech
Two more so tenderly complete:
