Sleep Without Dreams Poem by Judy Jones

Sleep Without Dreams

Take a second look
and you'll see we all have imperfections
Maybe the scholars are right
and it can be followed back to our roots
Our foundation
The windows it holds
Show the same views of the world
regardless of time
Maybe I've embedded it in me long ago
These unforgettable fears
All over again
Or maybe I will just never let them go

Hope
A religion based on wishes
Courage and strength
The fundamentals of our success
Yet history seems to repeat itself
Hope becoming just a wish
Barely reaching the edge of survival
with success slipping in and out of my hands
My pessimistic acceptance
leads me to sleep without dreams
and loss of color in this already faded life
As I still cling to survival
