Sleepless Nights Poem by Mary Roach

Sleepless Nights

So many sleepless nights.
The wall of protection has fallen and crumbled allowing the enemy to walk right over the rubble and make their attack.
The barrier has split and let the enemy in.
So many sleepless nights.
His face taunts my dreams and his memories haunt my waking hours.
I feel like I am slowly being dragged down life’s rock road and am hitting every pothole in the pavement.
So many sleepless nights.
Is there no mercy?
I pray that the haunting, the taunting, and suffering will soon be over.
Being overcome by the armies of heartache as I am doesn’t make one stable.
So many sleepless nights
My heart is gone yet I still feel the pain.
With each beat of this worthless organ, I feel a stab of betrayal, of loss, of fear, but mostly of weakness.
So many sleepless nights
Tossing and turning on a bed of needles.
My eyes are wet from weeping that’s why I don’t get rest.
So many sleepless nights.
