Slide Poem by Lee Gelis

Slide

When silence is the answer
And waves no longer crash
My arms will still outreach
If even with hands of ash

I’ve longed far too far
And ran much much more
Only to discover
There’s no soul at the core

But then why do I search
For a senseless universal
When all I can find
Is a run-down rehearsal

The hill between power
And responsibility
Leaves me no duende
And reckless jealousy

But alas, I can slide
To a grand new place
To find the same people
But in a different race

I can slide away my worries
History’s the rest
Until, I too
Slide down into my chest

But I can still say
My hand will still be there
Waiting for a response
Waiting for a care

So come to me ye worthy
Those willing to contest
Slide to me ye daring
Or find a way at best
