Smiling Poem by Virginia Williams

Smiling

I wonder why,
I even try,
Because it always ends,
With me in a cry.
I try to talk,
But you don't listen.
I try to listen,
But you don't talk.
I'm done with wondering why.
I'm done with even trying.
I'm done with all the crying.
Now it's time I start smiling.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
This poem is about me trying to talk with my oldest brother, Ted, who is my father figure and my everything. When I was little my dad shut all of us kids out and my mom was always busy with our two businesses. After my dad shut us out and my mom being to busy to be at our every beck and call my older brother, Terence, started acting out and was put on probation and was in out of lock-ups, placements, and other things like that. He was put in the court system when he was about 13, that's a few years after my dad shut us out. My dad shut us out when I was about 8, Terence was about 11, and Ted was about 14.
