Sniffing And Expectorating Poem by gershon hepner

Sniffing And Expectorating

Inflammatory, erratic, flying
like Icarus towards the sun,
Newt Gingrich seems now to be trying
to prove the President is none
of the above, meticulous,
conciliatory and most pragmatic.
The choice between ridiculous
and what, au fond, is enigmatic,
is one that the electorate
may have to make, but I
am sniffing, and expectorate,
since neither of them seems to fly
much better than did Icarus,
and both are doomed to burn their wings
in the process. Which the sicker is
the polls will tell us in their swings,
but they don’t really diagnose
the problem that affects the two,
for each comes with a wind that blows
a plus ça change with nothing new.
