So Close Poem by Dan Brown

So Close

You came so close but fell at the last -
I’ve never seen someone fall so fast.
Taking to war with a fearless cry
yet somehow still you managed to die.

You came so close but couldn’t complete;
eggshells are sharp to delicate feet.
Gameplan or not, you were almost there -
could almost touch it but didn’t dare.

You came so close but you lost all heart,
not one to upset the applecart.
Why did your confidence not remain
when faced with all that you stood to gain?

You came so close but failed in the end
to rebuild that bridge you had to mend.
I’ll jump from my side and you from yours -
windows are opened by closing doors.
