So I'M... Gay
My name is Dan, and because of you,
I walk with my head down, ashamed to look people in the eye.
My name is Dan, and because of you,
I cannot be free to be who I am, and every time I have to lie.
My name is Dan, and because of you,
I am afraid to go out on my own.
My name is Dan, and because of you,
I must sit in my bedroom, sobbing alone.
My name is Dan, and because of you,
I believe the world is a spiteful, hateful place.
My name is Dan, and because of you,
I can never reveal my one true face.
My name is Dan, and because of you,
my parents very nearly lost their son.
My name is Dan, and because of you,
the bigoted race very nearly won.
But no.
My name is Dan, and I’m bigger than you.
My name is Dan, and I’m better than you.
And the whole of “my people”? They are too.
So now I don’t listen to what you say.
It won’t change anything anyway.
I’m sorry you don’t like it, but what can I say?
My name is Dan, and yes, I’m gay.
I 'love' the poem for what it says and how Dan says/writes it, including the fine rhyming. : ) ***** And to my favorites.

Actually, it wouldn't surprise me either way, if the poem is or is not a joke. It would not be the first 'joke' poem on PH. I've written a few myself. : ) bri
1 – I am " straight" , though after 2 divorces (from a women) i 'thought': " maybe i should try men? " No, i don't think so. But send good wishes to LGBT as i would to those who are otherwise. And i'd try to treat people as they " should" be treated [[deserve to be treated? ]] no matter their preference in 'sexual partners'. I do NOT say to be " proud" , as my friend Paul Brookes said below.
