Soap Opera (Episode #11) Poem by Bryan Corbett

Soap Opera (Episode #11)

Soap Opera (episode #11)
"Funeral For A Friend"

the body in the morgue
formerly known as John Doe
had been identified as Parker Strickland:
the mayor of Bell City

of course, Ricardo had known who it was
long before he drove his car
through Parker's breakfast nook
but he hadn't answered a single question
asked by the police,
at his lawyer's request,
of course

Parker and Ricardo had been friends for years
Friday poker nights, golfing, baseball games
and his recently late wife Sheila and Parker's wife Carly
had always been very close, too

Carly had refused to claim Parker's body
once she learned the particulars her husband's death
leaving Parker's parents to bury their son
with only themselves and their pastor
in a private ceremony
at the gravesite
