Solvent Of Tears Poem by Kelly Vinal

Solvent Of Tears

Rating: 5.0

Dream
Am I not to know
What comes back
When I yearn, so
Out of my reach
And out of my touch
Dreaming, by proxy, I
Await the fate
Of checkmate
Or the mousetrap,
Because I eat
And I wait
For the meal
That never comes
And when it comes
Back to me, I
Can’t portray the
Character assigned
Because I am still
Somewhat a rat
And I might mouth
‘I love you’ or
I might dissolve
In your solvent of
Tears

After I read this poem, I had to re-read it a few more times, not becuase it's a good poem anyway, but because I couln't shake off the 'I've been here too' feeling. I like the lines 'Dreaming, by proxy, I Await the fate Of checkmate Or the mousetrap, Because I eat And I wait For the meal That never comes' Unadorned language that conveys a wealth of meaning.
