Someone Sighed, I Heard It Then Poem by Sean Joyce

Someone Sighed, I Heard It Then

Someone sighed
I heard it then
A long and haunting
sigh - it comes again

Who was it sighed
that long, sad, yearning sigh
It took my breath and
still I don’t know why

What was the thought, that
made my poor soul sigh
What truth wants out
that my heart would deny

glimpsed for a moment
then suffocated, so that in
this poem's battle with my heart
nothing splendid was created
