Somewhere Poem by David Harris

Somewhere

The chime of bells in towers
chiming at every hour,
their music echoes through
the early morning empty streets
awaking sleepy heads
from their evening slumber.

Sitting on a balcony
in the fresh morning breeze
I watch as life begins
to awake to start another day
as slowly traffic emerges
along the empty streets.

Within a few hours
the streets below will be
filled again with holiday voices
moving in mass to and fro
enjoying the day’s sun,
relaxing as they peer in shop windows.

Another brief day of rest bite
from their working lives
thousands of miles away
from the work that dominates
their daily lives
in a postcard village somewhere.
