Song: Vertigo Poem by Dave SmithWhite

Song: Vertigo

I need to know, the way the wind will blow,
And how your lands might lie.
You need to know, it's not for show,
But I reel when you're close by.
You make me feel - I'm winning,
When I'm falling, from on high.
It's like a new beginning,
And still I don't know why!

You need to see: it cannot be.
There ain't no going back.
From the wilder storms of destiny,
I'll not be forced to tack.
And yet resolve is thinning,
Like belief in a constant lie.
A maddened face is grinning,
And still I don't know why!

You want to say, there is a way;
But you know that cannot be.
You can pray, every day,
Or crawl upon your knee.
I do too much damn sinning,
To earn the eternal sigh.
Yet all my bells are ringing,
And still I don't know why!

You need to know; I've said 'Hello! '
And now I'll say 'Goodbye! '
My last dark years are indigo;
With duller colours shy.
Though I've played the final innings,
I'm not content to die.
Or is that a cat worth skinning,
When it smells to heaven-high?

You need to know, I cannot go,
On your stairway to the sky.
My love for you, is in the vertigo,
I feel when you're nearby.
The world uncurls; it's spinning
Before my dizzy eye.
You upset my underpinnings,
And yet I don't know why!
