Sonnet # 145 Poem by John A. Hancock

Sonnet # 145

I could not stay the tears that well'd
When I a baby's obit beheld
Oh happy child immortalized
Now with love grief to shall lie
Lingers sadness when memories few
Of so great a treasure such as you
All to short life's hold on thee
Yet alive in dreams eternal be
I know you not but thru empathy
Tis why these heartfelt words I leave
For all the loved ones thy passing grieved
And strangers pondered such as me
Your memory lives in hearts of all
Whose children's spirit too early heaven call'd
