Sonnet: ‘homo Sapiens’ ‘in Utero’ Poem by Dr John Celes

Sonnet: ‘homo Sapiens’ ‘in Utero’

Behold the beauty of the embryo!
The fusion of the gametes in the womb;
From single cell, the progeny will grow,
To breathe earth’s air, before ’tis down in tomb.

And how each part appears in time aright!
A development, gene-directed by God;
And many things must happen by day/night;
The environs must also give the nod.

Man thinks he can improve the growth process!
He sets defects aright ‘in Utero’;
What if he should render matters much worse!
A tragedy, fetus may undergo.

Yet, Nature’s best in what it breaks or makes,
And man must learn self-control for God’s sakes!
