Sonnet: India Today Poem by Dr John Celes

Sonnet: India Today

Rating: 4.5

When burglaries and thefts are on the rise;
When people’s voice is stifled unjustly;
When skyrockets over the years, the price;
When ordinances are signed hastily!

When people get arrested without norms;
When cops themselves are killed in broad daylight;
When sold outside are stamps and government-forms;
When danger lurks for everyone at night!

Where has the freedom gone that Gandhi gave?
What is the use of such democracy?
When men in power, high-handed behave;
When states are corrupt; leaders go crazy!

Though freedom we’d got, yet free we are not!
God save the country from this trend of Rot!
