Sonnet: Is Retirement, A Boon? Poem by Dr John Celes

Sonnet: Is Retirement, A Boon?

Retirement for me has come too soon!
To me, it has not made a difference;
The teaching profession is but a boon;
You keep on working without severance.

But many are denied a pension now;
This causes problems to the aged ones;
How will they feed and treat their illness, oh?
And some are still ‘not-out’ and hitting runs!

The plight of elderly in doldrums lies;
The senior citizens have woes galore;
In misery, most elderly now dies;
Society has to do for them much more!

The elderly need love, inquiry, care;
The modern youth must work for their welfare!

Surely it is very disturbing to think about a retirement life where no pension benefits are no more. good poem
