Sonnet: Purify My Soul, O God Poem by Dr John Celes

Sonnet: Purify My Soul, O God

I ought to have been more careful long back,
Avoiding sins I needn’t have committed;
I want to curse myself for being slack,
I wish more good deeds I had credited.

God knows my weaknesses, my every thought;
His heart is full of mercy for earthlings;
In devils’ web, I always remained caught;
I’ve grown in wisdom from my short-comings.

O God, give me the time and chances to,
Make up for all the misdeeds of my past;
My sinful castles in the air- undo!
And purify my heart ‘fore I breathe last.

Oh, make my soul alright for Thee to dwell;
And never take me anywhere near Hell.
