Sonnet: Today’s Politicians Poem by Dr John Celes

Sonnet: Today’s Politicians

Will human beings never learn lessons?
Their hearts turn cold with time and minds think not;
Preoccupied with vengeance in sessions,
To overthrow their opponents, they plot.

And politics has scope for ‘big-money! ’
Where tongues must lie and hands must do evil,
Where life on earth is ruled by clout/ money,
Where God’s forgot; you serve the chief Devil!

No crises make them realize their wrongs;
They say one thing and do clandestine things;
Just power-mad, their thoughts behave like tongs!
Too many curses/ lives lost- downfall brings.

Which head that wears the crown can sleep with it?
With time, the crown becomes heavy/ unfit.
