Sonnet: Truth Of Earthly-Life Poem by Dr John Celes

Sonnet: Truth Of Earthly-Life

Behind the veil of affluence and 'peace',
There lies the scars of parental neglect;
Of broken homes, substance abuse, disease;
Disharmony and lack of love, infect.

Behind the veil of etiquette, high-style,
Exists a world of immorality;
Discontent, selfishness, arrogance, wile;
Of pride and lack of spirituality.

Behind the veil of civilization,
There lies much truth as scary as a ghost;
Prevailing 'midst society and nations,
Of evils, vices, cruelty, friendship lost.

This is the truth we learn of earthly-life;
Both soul and God are ignored 'midst our strife.
