Sound Of The African Child Poem by Mugano S. Paul

Sound Of The African Child

Tender-aged.
Innocent.
Orphaned.
Vulnerable.

Rejected,
Abducted,
Punished,
Exploited,
Defiled.

Mocked.
Abused;
Mutilated,
Sacrificed...

Drugged.
Diseased.

Heavy-ladened;
Breaking, loading and offloading
In modern-day slavery and servitude
At battle-fronts,
At construction sites,
In factories,
At market-yards,
In plantations...

Battered.
Bruised.
Burnt.
Banished.

Disappointed yet appointed,
Forsaken yet chosen;
The inheritance of God Most High
Created in His own image,
Bought and cleansed
By the most precious blood
Of Jesus Christ our Savior and Lord.

We do not gold, not bread!
We need the Word of God!
We do not shelter!
We need love divine!
With this you heal the world,
You make it a better place
For you and me in peace.

We are the future generation.

Pressed, but not crushed;
Perplexed, but not in despair;
Persecuted, but not abandoned;
Struck down, but not destroyed

Many curse but we bless.
