Special I Am Poem by Janet BredeauWhite

Special I Am

As “I Sit Alone”
Quiet but afraid
No one even knows
Scared to Socialize
‘Cause people are not aware
No one comes near
As “ I Sit Alone”
Are they scared
‘Cause I may be different
They laugh, point, sometimes stare
Are they doing it at “Me”
All I really want to do
Is have friends too
As “I Sit Alone”
Maybe if I could tell
It would help me get well
Unique “ I am”
Get confused, turned around
But my teacher leads the way
There are a few who will help me out
As “ I Sit Alone”
History is my thing, in class we are
They need my help can I be brave
The teacher calls on me
I shake as I stand
Bough my head as I speak
Done I am they clap
As “ I Sit Alone”
My classmates come over to me
As I pack my bag
They ask me to help them
We chat and carry on
Smile I do with my head held high
As I “Don’t” sit alone

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
I work with a wide range of students who need help in what ever their struggles may be. Sometimes they have no social skills and alls they want to do is learn. Because they are different other students tend to stay away from them. But I saw this one day and It inspired me to write this poem.
