Splintered Poem by Olivia Capulet

Splintered

Penny for my thoughts today
As they fall inside my head
I paint my canvas black on blue
And write them all instead
I lay here thinking wide awake
What wretches we've become
Foul words used to bruise me so
How is it that I am numb?
It would appear we're nothing now
Mere splinters of a dream
Clutching them won't save us
But it silences my screams
All we do is lie to the world
And smile through bleeding hearts
How is it I'm an actress now?
I never chose this part
The truth is darker than a lie
We can't be seen to care
Too scared to open up my eyes
Knowing you're not there
I lay alone in dreams of you
Drowning as I fall
You broke my heart to splinters
And I love you with them all
