Spokesman Of The Oracle Poem by Echezona Ononukwe

Spokesman Of The Oracle

The elephants have spoken
The goddesses have warned
Small griot-lauret has whistled
But should the parrot be dumb?

The fat hawks have perched
The boss-snakes have answered
The helfty hens have come
With jail sentence
In their plans
But should the chants run away?

Lions whisper to the lionesses;
The lionesses counsel their media
But their thoughts are dull wisdom...
Should the chants go away?

Anus is open
The arusi has farted
Fire heats the woods
Eagles seek their mothers
Should the songster shut his mouth?

He who bites the iroko-bard
Invites a headache to his teeth!

A child-deity who roars
In the presence of adult-god
Seeks the koboko of the adult-deity!

When a parrot weaves his chants,
Even the bigger expert deities
Anoint his mouth!

Silence...
