Step By Step Poem by Terence Lorenzo

Step By Step

There is a dawn in the affairs of man
Of adventures lived, battles lost and won
Relationships started and ended
And in memory, they live on
Some are recurring, day by day we remember
Even without us wanting to
Others are rare, they happen sporadically
Maybe once in a while, unexpectedly
An they draw a smile within
And we toil on
Pitting ourselves against life
While it throws everything at us
More suffering, more pain
New friendships, old betrayals
We stand tall, the weight and pressure bearing down
Every step a torture
We look longingly ahead, hoping for an easier route
We try different directions
But it is always the same
And we are left with just one thought
which permeates our every living fiber
To make that next step forward.
