Stepping Out (2005) Poem by Lillian B. Rose

Stepping Out (2005)

Sometimes I wonder
If I am the only one
To shudder at dismissal
Or grow warm at your touch

I want to have found
A love to stay awhile
To be with someone I trust
Not fearing imminent destruction
All the while, waiting for trial

For once in my life
I'm running on fumes
Feeling in safety
When I am with you

All of the blemishes
That mark up my path
Seem less than resilient
Holding your hand

I want you to feel
What I fears in my heart
As musical tunes
Drift out of my mouth

There are many reasons
This time you've won
And I wish others to see us
Out under the sun
